Acai: Saving our health And the Rainforest

The acai super fruit from the Amazon rainforest is one of the most powerful antioxidants around. According to suppliers, not all Acai is ethically alike.

The government of Brazil guesstimates that the Amazon forest will have lost 25 percent of its original area by 2020. While this is a large problem for the acai, a loss of that magnitude would be disastrous not only for the ecosystem of the area, but also for the world’s climate.

Enormous pieces of Amazon rainforest have been destroyed for years now due to unsustainable farming and logging. The reason is that trees need to be cleared for cattle ranching and soybean farming.

According to officials, fiscal and social incentives are necessary to keep the Amazon rain forest standing.  No amount of rules and regulations by the Amazonian Government can stop the destruction of the home of super foods like acai. This destruction could be stopped, however, by the growing demand for acai, and other fruits like it.

Acai began its admiration in North America due to the creation of trendy juice bars and smoothies.  These trends are ongoing and even intensifying, due to Acai’s nutritional value and flavor. Acai also has been shown in studies to have many health benefits such as an antioxidant, skin cell protector, and improve cellular regeneration in the skin, cleansing and detoxifying, and decreasing inflammation.

The World Wildlife Fund estimates the Amazon rainforest is the home of nearly 30 percent of the world’s plant life, along with Acai berries. In addition, the Amazon River is the world’s largest river.  The flow volume of the amazon equals 20 percent of the joint volume of all rivers on the planet.

The Amazon rainforest is jam-packed with restorative super foods as well as medicinal plants. The more we identify and support these plants in North America, the more appreciated the Amazon rainforest will be.

Some Acai product manufacturers think the FDA, along with conventional medicine, seems to want to try and shut down the supplement industry.  Consumers are advised that supplements are useless or unsafe, but the truth is that the Amazon rainforest contains all the medicine most of us really need.  Some believe that the natural “medicine” of the Amazon makes conventional medicine absolutely unnecessary.
